UIW students were treated to a combined effort to promote Black History Month AND celebrate Fat Tuesday. The Jazz Band from St Anthony’s put on a show in the Marian Hall while Residence Life traded free t-shirts for canned goods that would go to feed the needy. Reporter Mike Martinez takes us inside the story.
Walk In My Shoes is an organization that was created by Eric Castillo a UIW student. Eric’s vision began under a bridge in Austin, he saw the need to put in action a project to give shoes to those in need. As people started donating shoes Eric got even more motivated and now people have given him about 5000 pairs of shoes. Last November, The University of the Incarnate Word came up with a new policy involving smoking in certain areas and, of course, restricting it from other areas as well. Some students have benefited from it but others aren’t too pleased by it. Why was this decision made? What do students think about this?
